Aftermarket Paint Protection - Permaplate??

My dealer mentioned having the truck paint and KR leather "protected" with permaplate. I still think this is just unnecessary dealer margin but thought I would ask.

I have young kids (go a head, say it - I know I am asking for a stain) and am planning on putting rear seat covers on for a while - they are almost out of that phase.

I fell for this trick a long time ago but technology has changed possibly???

Has anyone had this (or some other type protective coatings) put on their trucks???

Have you ever wondered how do you really know if Scent-Lock clothing works when our sense of smell is the weaker sense?

3M Scotchguard is the market standard for fabric / carpet protection.

Applied when the stuff is new, it is good for at least 3 to 6 months before it needs to be cleaned and reapplied.

In low usage areas, it can last a year or more.

Leather --- there are conditioners, soaps, and what nots that claim to do anything and everything.

The truth is it is a natural covering (hide) and over time, it will dry out, crack, and so on.

Lanolin / sheep wool grease / polishes can delay that, but eventually, leather that is not regularly conditioned (most) will crack, and eventually, go to pieces.

As for paint, there are a ton of coatings out there.. and it is nearly unheard of that they are... tested and validated in a laboratory setting.

You might get a better deal from buying clean air.

I use Meguiar's NXT 2.0 wax, and Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Cleaner & Conditioner. These were recommended by a custom detailing products shop that sells many different brands of the above. And, this is their only business. Futhermore they have been in business selling just these type of products for many years. I value THAT opinion. Have used both religiously for years and tried many other products. My 04 Lariat I just traded in looked perfect inside and out. Seats were like new. Even my dealer shook his head in disbelief as to the interior. I'm sure there are many other comparable products on the market but these have been my choice for a very long time!! I use Husky Liners on floors. Just my two cents worth. By the way I ordered my Lariat F350 on 15 Nov, built 11 Jan and delivered 14 Feb. 93 VERY LONG days of waiting. It was worth every day. ENJOY!!

I used a product that I think is called Xeno. I was very impressed. I had to clay bar the entire truck and then apply several different coats of different products. We got 3 new trucks and did it to all of them. One of the trucks was done before we got out company lettering put on it and some of the lettering actually fell off-it really makes the paint smooth. As for your seats, I had a king ranch and loved the seats just make sure you frequently treat them. I used to buy the stuff right from the King Ranch in Texas and later switched to mink oil or saddle soap. I know a guy who never treated his seats and they actually got that dry and faded that they looked white. I also tinted my front windows to keep the sun off of them.

You think we can over analyze stuff on these trucks? You ain't seen nothin' yet!

BTW...from my reading there I bought a dual action buffer and several hundred dollars worth of products to detail my own cars. Absolutely amazing results and very little effort. Listen to them....
