I'd like to have a discussion of the best way to convert a 1965 or 1966 F100 to power steering. I don't want to rehash an old debate...The "Bendix versus Saginaw" thread has been well covered.
Outside of the bolt on Bendix or the seemingly complex "notch-and-bolt-on" Saginaw process, what other methods are out there? What have you tried that has worked? Obviously don't want to do anything that takes out the Dual I-beams, but the introduction of some "non-pure" parts (like a PS box from another vehicle) would be ok.
I have heard of the Toyota 4x4 ps box conversion and a site for '53-56 F100s lists this kit to do just that. Would it work on a '65/'66?
So what works? Where can one find kits to do this or a list of parts for each type of conversion? Anyone have a great process or photos they can share?
We always put a 73-79 F100 /150 Dentside steering box on our trucks. Easy to aquire and a basci direct bolt application. Biggest issue is the pulley assembly ensuring proper alignment and spacing on power steering bracket.
We even recently put one on a 59 chevy truck; fit perfect once we block the frame rail. Having a rag joint connection even allow us to bolt on a s10 tilt column, onto the customers truck.
Thanks Mitch. I have the correct pump mounting bracket for an FE and would like to keep the original steering collumn. Are you saying that the dent side box is a direct bolt on without changing the motor mounts or steering collumn? If so, I am closer than I thought to pulling the trigger.
