My old dog is leaving me stranded again. It a 99 F250 SD with the 7.3 4x4 automatic with 362,000 miles on it. Sure was trying to hit 400k this coming year, oh well. I really don't want to junk the truck but I just can't swing a 1600 dollar repair bill for it, I spent too much on it this year.
I pulled into driveway at night ok, went to leave in the morning and noticed a trail of oil following me out the drive. Pulled back up and looked under and saw a steady stream of trans fluid running down from the top of the tranny down and off of the drivers rear corner of the drain pan. When daylight came I tried to view the location of the leak with a camera and even a mirror after cleaning area first with brake clean, I can't believe I can't see the source as much as what is coming out. The only work that was done to the truck in the past week was I replaced both valve cover gaskets because of the wiring connectors. Trans was fine until I tried backing out of the drive, engine and trans were cold and under no load.
I'm not sure which trans I have, Ford can tell by vin right?
Thanks, I did see what looks like a vent hose fastened to a top rib so I unclipped it and pulled the hose down to see if the leak was there, nope, hose is dry. I did see in a pic that there is an electrical connector on the tailshaft housing I believe but I figure if the leak was there, it would leak further back and not fill the 2 square recesses on the top of the trans before running down.
