quick question...should bring quick answer..

i have a 1994 ford f150 xlt 4x4 with 5.8 and e4od trans. the truck has had 3 transmissions put in it...all 3 transmissions have had a problem. they all have locked up neutral..and reverse goes in but will not move like the parking brake is set...but its not...the last trans was put in around august drove till october then started doin it again...im tired of puttin trannys in this truck. so my question is i did a diagnostics and pulled codes 452 which is Computer detected an error in the VSS or PSOM signal during the last 80 warm-up cycles. and 657 Transmission over temperature condition occurred. is my trans fried or is the speed sensor causing all of this??

There could a few things that might be wrong with the truck causing the transmission to fail, just because the transmission failed does not always mean the transmission is the original problem. A restricted cooler in the radiator can cause the transmission to over heat and fail over and over.

The reason its doing that is because the forward clutches have slipped to a point that they are welded together and cant release, so basically you have forward all the time, it pulls forward in neutral and tries to move forward in reverse, that's the bind up that you are feeling.

I am afraid that this transmission is toast.

A bad vss shouldn't destroy the trans, it just might make it not change gears or failsafe out.

clean all the lines, otherwise you will be putting the old fluid back in the new trans. I use the cooler from jegs, it has a cooling fan on it.I also installed a temp guage so I know when to turn on the fan. pushing snow so far with this set up has been great, the cooler not only cools the tranny, but also brings down the coolent temp
