I am going tonight to either order or take a new king ranch from dealer stock. If you had the option, what would you do...being as job 2 is now being built on new orders. Is it that much of a difference? Will I notice anything major on a job 1 that would make me regret not going with a job 2? Any thoughts are much appreciated!!
Boston - I just went through the same decision a few weeks ago. Instant gratification, no risk on incentives, and no risk on finance rates by buying off the lot vs the wait and the risk of ordering. In the end the words of wisdom from an old timer I hang out with rang in my ears (no one knows his real name - we all call him Big Dawg) - "Get exactly what you want, never compromise, and you will never be disappointed."
I ordered mine on Oct 20th. Now I just have to wait.........
Well the dealer I am going to has 26 250 King Ranches on the lot. They have exactly what I want, but I don't know if going with job 1 vs job 2 is going to bite me. If you had the option of getting the exact same truck but job 1 vs job 2 waiting, would you?
for the *exact* same truck, I'd say the job# doesn't matter.
If I had it to do over again, I'd have gone with a 350 and gotten the 5th wheel prep package... although they won't offer that in a short bed for a while still. I wish I could get a long bed, but at 21', I barely fit in the parking garage at work. 23' would be nuts.

Get the F350, then you have no worries. The 5th wheel prep is nice if you have or are even thinking of getting a Fiver.
I thought with the Job 2 you could get the prep package on the short box.
The only thing I would want from the Job 2 is the rear defrost. Other than that, the King Range has everything.
the short box 5th wheel prep has been delayed until the 2012 MY
edit: looks like that is gooseneck only... 5th wheel not till 2013 or later for short boxes:
5th Wheel Hitch Kit - 15K
Orderable opt. from factory production start date Aug 2 for Long Box only
Will NOT be Available on Short Box for '11 or '12 MYs
Beside seeing it... I can assure the prep package is available for the short box.
I ordered on Oct 16th from a Job 2 print out at the dealer that had all the info from the forums. The prep went through with no errors when we built it.
The gooseneck hitch is delayed. Dealer said it is odd as they stock them. So maybe it will be slightly different than the long bed. Seems hard to believe though.
Also got the rear defrost for the sliding window.
Estimated delivery Nov. 22 not holding my breath though
As I look at Job 2 differences, only the rear defroster would be on my list and I can live w/o it. If they had what I wanted in the color of my dreams, I would buy and drive....and I did...
I would take dealer stock ONLY if I could find exactly what you want. I would not pay for options I didn't want or pass up any I wanted. As I understand it the only thing job 2 offers is a few more options. Otherwise it is the same truck.
i would have ordered one, but i found one in dealer inventory exactly as i would have ordered so it was a no brainer for me. why wait if it exists right now? i think there is a slight chance that you will get a better deal if you take delivery from dealer stock vs order especially if you find a dealer that is overstocked and has had one sitting there for a while just costing them money. plus you get it now vs waiting 6 to 8 weeks. i did kinda need something now too because i had sold my old truck and was having to drive my shelby daily vs just on nice sunny days which wasn't actually so bad but i missed the mannerisms of the truck after a short period.
