Offy intake question
So I am looking to purchase soon and install an Offenhauser intake, EFI exhaust and the Holley 390. Where I'm getting hung up is the kick down linkage. Can someone post a picture or two on how they resolved this issue?
I'm also finding it very difficult to find the heated carb spacer. Is it absolutely necessary to have that? I live in NE PA and it can get pretty cold at times but I can't really remember the last time it went below 0.

Just to let you know, I tried the holley 390 and it is a lot of work and extra expense trying to get rid of the big off idle bogging issues that seem to plague the Holley , I got tired of dumping money and time into the Holley and went out and purchased the Edelbrock #1403 carb and just bolted it on and was driving it, no bogging, no heated carb spacer, no changing jets, springs, power valves and other tuning issues with the Holley 390. The Edelbrock carb has ford style kickdown linkage on it so it should be a breeze hook up.

Now that I think about it, I had a 74 AMX with a 360cid and I had put a Edlebrock torquer intake and a Holly 700 DP. Had some head work done and cam. Car really didn't run right so I switched to a Edlebrock 650cfm and it ran awesome.
Since I am more familiar with Edlebrock carbs and it has the kick down, I think I will go that route. Thanks for the reminder.

Like Overland express said. I had a quadrajet I put on when I first switched to a offy Dp and it was a nightmare. Swapped it out for the Edelbrock 1403 put it on and drive fine ran alittle rich but once I did some tuning and driving figured it out. Very easy to work on and change rods and gets.
For the heated spaced that looks to be the correct one. AbandonBronco will tell you from his experience. That you need to fill in the void around the vaccum port in the spacer otherswise you will have a huge vaccum leak. Use some jb weld or fast weld putty to fill in and then sand flat and you will be good to go.
I am pretty sure from most parts stores like napa autozone oreilly that they sell the kickdown bracket for the edelbrock carbs. Good luck with everything

I'm really starting to think I'm going to track down an Edelbrock and give it a try. I've fought with this stupid off-line bog for over a year now with my Holley 390 and have never been rid of it. Just don't have the money for a different carb at the moment.

I have finaly been able to keep my foot out of it for a few tanks and so far it looks like I am getting the same mileage I was getting with my stock 1 bbl, going to and from work it took 1/4 tank of gas with the 1 bbl and it is the same with the 4bbl just lots more power. Also I installed a carb spacer between the intake and carb as I heard it helps with smoothing the rpm out when accelerating, though the carb linkage would just clear without it. With all the issues I heard with Icing I used a black phenolic (Non Metal) carb spacer as it does not get as cold as the aluminum ones. Notice in the picture I pulled my brake booster vacuum from the manifold and installed a brass nipple in the carbs base and capped it off with a rubber cap, this way I have an available port to connect my vacuum gauge for underhood tuning.

Damn Overland,I'm glad I wandered over here.My intake came in and I was bout to go for the Holley 390.Not now.I didn't know they were such a pita.Thanks.Also,What model is your p.s. pump and bracket from?It looks slick!

Thanks Overland,You're a great help!I just scored the ex manifolds but it looks as though there might be an issue with alt clearance.I didn't see your alt in the pics,so was wondering if you had an issue with that.Thanks again.
