LOL another vibration thread

i did not want to high jack the other thread as my vibration issue may be different. My vibration is not intermittent. I have a 99, 5 spd 3.0, with 96,+++ miles. tthis truck has a mild vibration that I can feel in the steering column and see in the passenger seat. Through out the mph not rpm range until about 72 mph then it stops I guess. Anyway the front feels tight, new tires, ball joints, front shocks. I changed the brake pads several thousands miles ago but not the rotors. Is it possible the rotors are out of ROUND ? I don't think they are warpped as it doesn't wobble when braking that I can attribute to a warpped rotor. Also I noticed the rear drivers side axle has some in and out play like 1/4 inch. U Joints are not new but feel ok, drive shaft has the ballance and is not bent or dented that I can tell. Whats next ?

Most of the extcabs have a 2 piece driveshaft. The small driveshaft is called a yoke and needs to be cleaned and greased
They recomend a special grease. Do a search

There is also a carrier bearing in the driveshaft to check

So you think the vibration is coming from the yoke not the rotors, or the rear axle ?

I doubt it is the rotors since you have no braking vibration. I am not sure about the RE. I Usually suggests checking things that are maintance issues first

Hit a curb recently?............have your front tires rebalanced, you may have thrown a balance weight or incurred something to put a tire out of balance.

"mild vibration that I can feel in the steering column"

Go slow and open your door and look at the front tire/rim. Have a passenger do the same. A slightly bent rim would transmit to the steering column.

Had the same prob on my 2007. Here is what I did and its now gone...

Replaced tires. Replaced shocks. Alignment. Better but still vibrated.

Replaced brakes - rotors, drums, pads, shoes (NAPA Premium). Greased driveshaft yolk with Harley blue wheel bearing grease. Much better but still slight vibration.

Replaced front sway bar bushings and sway bar ends - Raybestos from Rockauto. No more vibration. Also had a clunk when going slow on gravel road - now gone.

Did this same ritual about seven years ago on a 99 Ranger except used Ford parts. Same result.

Thanks bankshot, I'll try that. I have done the tires, alignment, front shocks, brake pads. I 'll do the front rotors with a premium grade and rear shocks. The sway bar bar bushings look new , blue poly. Not sure if I have a lube zert on the drive shaft but i'll check again. see how it comes out.

were both your trucks extcab? on your trucks were the driveshaft aluminum? did they both have the slip yoke and the carrier bearing?
