Heres the deal... I have a 79 F150 4x4... The truck is cold natured which is understandable, especially on cold mornings... But when I get er cranked up almost every time after I shift from Park to Drive and press my foot to the gas she will cut off and after another try or two she finally gets going. This will happen if I am driving it as well... Like Ill be doin I dunno, 45 and when I come to a stop sign, I obviously stop. Then Ill press my foot to the gas and if I dont give just enough shell go out, or atleast want to unless I hit the gas just right....... Any thoughts? Fuel filter or fuel pump maybe? Thanks
yep the accelerator pump, first thing i changed out on mine,i noticed0 right away the shaft was froze up,previous owner( my father-in-law) said he had a mechanic fix it but it still had hesitation on acceleration, when i took it apart i noticed that it was installed backwards, and that is why it froze up it was never actually being depressed by the throttle linkage.

How is everybody so sure its the accelerator pump when the same problem can be from a cold engine and a non-functioning choke?
We were never told if this occurs when the engine is at operating temp or not.
it happens if the engine is both cold and after ive been driving for a while... whenever i come to a stop and go to accelerate again I can just feel it starting to go out on me.. Ive got it now where I know the truck good enough so I know exactly how to press the accelerator... Is the accelerator pump something thats relitivley cheap and easy to switch out? Im not the most mechanically inclined person that there is... I just started working on the truck, and even though it was pretty easy I switched out the starter last week and was pretty proud of myself, LOL... hahhaa. I appreciate all the input and ideas btw
I have had it happen on a lot of my fords thoughout the years. Not hard to fix most of the time, I get used to driving them and ignore it for as long as 2 or 3 years. I have bought rebuilt carbs with it doing it from the start, those I take back . After about 2 or 3 of them I will find a good one If I'm lucky.
