i have a 1986 f-150 302 efi with dual tanks. it has a short bed. my problem is i cant put fuel in fast. i have to barely put it in. it takes for ever to fill. no kinks in the fill line. i removed the vent tube in the filler hose when i changed the fuel pump. does that vent hose make it hard to fill? also im going to remove the bed. what do i need to disconnect to do that?
As for removing the bed, just remove the filler necks, unplug the wiring to the taillamps, then unbolt the bed bolts and lift it off. It may be harder than it sounds due to frozen bolts. The bed is heavy you will need help to lift it.
The principle is the same as that used on gallon-sized plastic bleach bottles (for example).
In the case of the bottle, the hollow handle is the air tube (look in the top and you can see
the hole through the handle) which lets air in & out as fluid comes & goes. Without it,
you'd have a hard time pouring the liquid out.
i got the bed off. all the bolts came loose but one. i had to grind the head off of it. man those bolts are hard. on the rear fuel pump witch way do the fuel lines face. it looks like they should face the back of the cab. also one of the fuel lines is leaking. is there a o ring or something that goes inside the hose were it fits in the fuel pump?
