Is it possible to install the rear backing sensors on a 2006 F150 FX4? Do they just sell the sensors that I can install in my current bumper, or do I have to replace the bumper?
I saw a DIY article on another F150 forum where somebody installed an 09 tailgate emblem and b/u camera to an 04-08 F150.Below is a link incase you're interested in trying that method.
i have the sensors on my 04 lariat, but i'm sure they have their own wiring harness, and there's a button beside the cigarette lighter inside that you can manually turn off the sensors so it wont beep like crazy when your tailgate is down or your backing up, sometimes rain on the sensors will make it beep. its all tied in. if you are going to put the sensors in definitely have that button. have you looked at aftermarket products?
in your case if your truck didnt come with the set up, and the override button isn't inside, i doubt that the harness is there for a plug and go install.
I've heard reference to someone getting a license plate holder that had BU sensors in it, but never heard much more on that. If you'd heart set on adding them, my suggestion would be get the wiring diagrams and find a wreck with then. Take the bumber and sensors, all the wiring up to the cab, the switch and hopefully the panel and everything else related to them.
I don't know how easy or hard it would be to do. In addition to wanting the switch for turning them off if you have the tailgate down, I can tell you from personal experience if you get into wet snow and get that onto the sensors, they will drive you nuts without the disable button.
got these sensors on ebay. attached the box under the back bumper, and run the display wire under bed to the vent opening behind the back seat. i attached the display to the back seatbelt box on top of seat this way way i see the distance when i go back. the only drilling was required in the bumper. btw the drill bit comes with this kit.
the wiring is very simple too, just splice it to the back up light, so it only turns on when you put in reverse.
had it for 2 years, the only problem i experienced is in winter when they freeze after car wash. but half a day and they start working again.
