Just putting out a idea... last night I pretty much totaled my '85. I'll start dis-assembly soon and check it out, I might be able to save it, but I may not.
Anyways, I've got this '68 or '69 F350 w/360 here I was going to fix. Now I'm thinking I might take the almost-new 460 out of my '85 and put it in the old truck.
I just stripped a '79 F250 w/ 460 bare. Would the pedestals and motor mounts from that work?
I've got a line on the appropriate bell housing (the bump side has a NP435) which I understand to be a 351/400 bell with non-hydrualic clutch.
What else do I need to consider? I believe the radiator in the truck will work. There is no exhaust on the truck, so it'd have to be made anyway...
I love my '85, but I may be better off going this route....
if the bumpside that you speak of had an fe engine then its bolt pattern for the bellhousing is unique to the fe engines.
the mounts from the 79 with 460 will work on a bumpside since up front the frames stayed the same it was only widened out back.
i can personally state that the radiator from my 79 f250 fit into my 71 f250. i don't know what radiator you are talking about though.
and a 460 with np 435 in a bump side is a sweet combo. but the 360 upgraded to 390 will give better gas mileage and almost as much grunt/ practical use.

just what i know and my 2 bits
Yeah, I know the pattern is different. But the NP435 came behind 351M/400s and that pattern is the same. I just have to find a 400/NP435 bellhousing and be sure it is from a non-hydrualic clutch truck. I think I found this bell housing on craigslist, and it would be my biggest hurdle I think.
Glad to hear the mounts will interchange.... And I meant the radiator in my bumpside now looks like it'll work with the 460- the hoses are on the same sides top and bottom, and look the same size. Plus, I have the '79 460 radiator if I need it.
I'd really like to use the FE motor, and I've got a line on a 390 I can build, but I can't overlook the fact that I have a 466 that I spent $2500 less than 7k miles ago
Besides, I don't plan to get good gas mileage anyway

by the way that 360 of yours wouldn't happen to be paired up to a manual tranny would it? if it is are you gonna use your bell housing or would you be willing to part with it?

The 360 is paired to a NP435. If I put the 460 in it, I will have a spare FE bell housing for sale possibly

What I mean is, the 351M/400 share a bell housing bolt pattern with the 460. The NP435 was available with this transmission, so I can find a bell housing from a 351/400 and it will bolt to my NP435 on one side and my 460 on the other.

Yeah, the radiator isn't a concern to me. That'll be easy.
