my truck started smoking the other day and it ended up being a wire that was burning... I followed the melted wire and it leads to this... Is it some kind of brake? Do I need it? Can I just go ahead and pull it and its burnt wire out? Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks
that is a trailer brake controller. You don't need it for the truck but if you plan on towing heavy trailers they are nice. I would probably just remove it & if doing much towing buy a new one (much updated ).

Note it will probably have a metal line on the back that runs out to your brake master cylinder. Make shure to disconect it & either remove the t setup or plug the extra hole.
Thank you very much. When smoke started pouring into my truck I about freaked out since I had just got her started for the first time in a long time. Lol
At the very least, you must find out why your wiring started smoking. It takes a lot of heat to smoke the insulation, so you must also verify that the wiring that burnt didn't also melt the insulation off of any nearby wiring. You also need to find out why a fuse didn't blow to prevent this.
Yeah the wire burnt all the way back. I just cut it back as far as I could. It coulda just laid against something hot in the engine. Who knows. Hopefully my truck won't blow up. Lol. Thanks for the pointers.
