All you white face gauge dudes/dudettes chime in here. I'm painting my gauges today and when I got to my speedometer I realized I need to remove the face so I can paint it without painting the odo and the trip odo numbers. To get the face off, I have to remove the needle. How do you do this? Or did any of you just tape off the openings? I am actually thinking about laying a strip of masking tape behind the face to block the opening so I won't have to remove the needle. I'll wait a few for any wisdom before I do anything here. Thanks in advance.
It pulls straight off. I took pix of to where the needle was pointing so I could re-install it
in approximately the same location.
Really? I pulled and what I thought was pretty hard too, but I didn't want to break the damn thing so I stopped. Oh well, I ended up undoing the screws behind the faceplate and that left me enough room to slip a piece of tape behind the windows so I could paint without FUBAR'ing the odo's.
I knew you'd chime in if you saw my thread ctubutis and glad you did. Thanks again.
If you read through this, and can't get the pictures to load... like me. What I did was put a napkin under a fork (yes, the kind from the silverware drawer) and then used it as a very miniature pry bar.
Note: if you've taken all of your needles off of your other gauges, and realize they are very thin metal, followed by noticing your speedo needle looks slightly bent. DON'T BEND THE SPEEDO NEEDLE!!!! That one is plastic. Hope this helps someone.
