Well let me start off with I have a 7.3L IDI 1990.
A few questions:
1. Steps to replace a heater core? And location
2. Do these trucks have OBD ports?
3. When Im driving up hill I get a smell of burned coolant.
4. How can I check compression of the cylinders?
5. What components run the A/C? Which ones are highly to leak?
6. ABS? Worth fixing on these trucks? Cause my ABS light is always on.
I know a ton of questions but I need to fix my truck up. Winter is coming and I'm gonna be doing a lot of hauling and need everything at its best. Please help!
On my '87 the heater core is behind the glove box. Just disconnect the hoses, remove the glove box, remove about 6 or 8 screws to remove the cover and there it is.
COMPRESSION ; you need a compression tester for diesels gauge that goes to around 1000
PSI and the right adapters for your engine .
COOLANT ; does it smell like it is coming from the inside or the outside ? outside you could have a leak on the exhaust manifold , inside your drain hole could be blocked
there is a oBd on my truck because it is a auto trans the only thing that this obd port could show you is the trans controller if you have a automatic if yours is manual i dont think it would have one it is located under the fuse box it looks like a weird computer connecter you need a scanner to read it you would need a OBD 1 scanner sell them at auto zone
$20
the Abs light comes on and off as we hit bumps gong down the road "never have looked into it" dosent bother me cause if ya know how to break ya dont really need it
and the a/c have no idea look for like oily dirty clumps by connections that is usally a sighn of a leak
