Next weekend I am going to trade my 4x4 ZF for a 2wd one with very low miles. It's looking like my big winter project will be shoehorning that 7.3 into my 69 F250, but I know the truck will need a good number of mods to handle it. It already has overly tall/heavy duty springs up front, it had a ~250lb PTO winch hung off the front of the truck when I got it, so it sits a little tall without it to the point that it wears the outer edge of the tires. It should sit about right with the extra weight of the diesel.
I am building a two link rear suspension with coils and a panhard bar similar to the setup Chevy used to 72, but I am setting it up with air helpers as well. I plan to fully box the frame while I have the bed off, and also put in a gooseneck ball below bed level. I will probably have a spray in liner of some sort done, but I'm not sure just yet. I'm keeping the tank behind the seat, and adding a plumbed in tank at the front of the bed inside my toolbox.
My only concerns are the D60 rear end- Will that handle a turned up 7.3, or if I follow through and add turbos? It's currently open with 3.73 gears, but I will be adding some sort of traction aid, most likely a Detroit locker.
