428CJ power problems

even with the stock C6 that cj should eat the rubber off of the rims I can keep them sping
in 4 gears with a almost stock 428CJ in my 69.
check your timing .

We still need to know about those gears...if you do have 2.79 gearing that would explain allot. I guess the simplest thing to do for now is check your timing and cylinder compression. Bump your initial up to @12btdc if it isn't. Yes, exhaust will help but its not whats holding you back in and off itself.

428CJ power problems

The rear-end is still a mystery. However, we don't think that the rear-end is the problem. The truck was used for my dads work which consisted of a lot of traveling. He said he carried 1500 to 2000 lbs in the truck and then pulled a 32 ft travel trailer up and down the hills of eastern KY and never had any problems pulling. So this leads us to believe that they are not the problem. I have 3.55 in my truck and it hates hills when I'm pulling out fifth wheel (but the truck has a 351 in it so I'm sure that doesn't help). I will try to get the tag number off of the rear-end and see if we can get some info from that. Thanks for all the ideas so far, maybe we can get this figured out so he can feel young again.
