My Service Advisor

I dropped my truck off at the dealer for an oil leak and the right front outer axle seal that has split( the left one was done last year when the bedplate seal was done) So the service advisor calls me today and says they found the oil residue on the bellhousing but could not find the source of the oil leak without removing the trans - i said ok. He said however if the leak turns out not to be a warrenty covered item - i would have to pay three hours labour for the trans R/R. Well i still have a full warrenty on the truck - Ford ESP. So i told him if he pulls the trans and finds out my CD player has been dumping oil on my engine - ill be happy to pay for the labour. Im not to worried since the only place that has engine oil is the engine and its totally covered. he just had no sense of humour about it. While they were doing the axle seal they found a tie rod that was out of spec - so they replaced it $260 - gees glad it was covered. The alignment was the only thing im on the hook for on the front end. They sure didnt have any problems selling me that warrenty but when it comes to paying out - they sure do squirm. ill let you know if my cd player is up to no good.

its really not what it seems. its a bad case of cya. its been forced apon the industry. Its just a case of it is what it is. Ford really has no issue with paying ligit claims.
please let us know if it the cd player though.

ok so he called today - the rear main seal is leaking -so were all covered. little disheartning to see my entire drivetrain sitting on the floor of the garage. last year it was the bedplate so im hoping thats it for a long time. i really like this truck and want to keep it for a long time. how often do these front outer axle seals usually last ? iv had both done in the last year.

I hear ya on the warranty. Mine is hitting 160K & I have to decided if I want to pay the $5000 for EXtended Engine warranty or just bite the bullet if something breaks??
It will take me to 2013 for engine work though just no drivetrain.

this is not a ford warranty, best I can advise is not to do it.
also 5k would buy you a very low milage 06/07 engine and assuming that the truck has no mods to it you are looking at $2500 or so to have it installed.

and drumroll please
1. rear main crank seal replaced
2. right front outer axle seal replaced
3. right front tie rod end and alignment
4. multi switch replaced
total $100 under warranty - well worth the 3000 the warranty originally cost me. as well as the above iv had the bedplate done and the left front outer axle seal.

I will say to finish this thread - since you rarely see good comments on here - that i liked the service at Meloche Ford in Amherstburg and will go back if i need dealer service and not that i have any mods but the mechanic says if he cant see a direct correlation between the needed repair and the mod - he wont hold it against you. all good.

If the only "mods" are what you list in your signature, I would personally NOT consider it to be a "modded" truck.

yes they are - however i wanted to ask the mechanic about mods before i made them seeing as the truck is still under warranty. I didnt want it voided due to an exhaust or intake mod or something like that.

Cheezit... yes this was right from the Ford dealer. Ford Diesel Extended Care. $4500 w/$100 decutible. for 300k kms or 2 more yrs
$4900 w/ $0 decutible. 300K kms or 2 more yrs

& when the dealer says 10-12000 for motor & $5000 to install it doesnt look bad then. but I have only had minor things so far. Biggest was last month bedplate leak. 2 yrs ago was injectors, which Ford didnt cover anyway because of water contamination.... so they say???

Only have 3000 kms or till Dec to decide on extra warranty or not.?????

I understand that it was a dealer offered warranty. that does not make it a factory warranty. Dealers sale more then one co warranty. This is a common practice. I just saying know what you are buying. I would contact a few other dealers and get pricing. I think Parts guy ed may also deal in them but not sure on that. hes a ford parts guy at a ford dealer.
