the game playing is all about not being able to see around SUV's and pickups. Drive in Chicago for a couple of decades and you'll see this kind of thing constantly.

The right lane is for the speed limit, and center lane is usually for trucks to pass each other and get back over. I can recall many trucks in the middle lane coming up on my *** doing 70 and flashing me the hi beams. I kindly show them they're #1 in my book and keep driving. F**K them, they don't own the road. I'm on my way to make a living just like they are. Of course being from Va, I proudly have my confederate flag in my back window, and occasionally you get a colored fella that don't really like it and he'll let me know i'm #1. I'm just glad it pisses em' off.
Wow...just Wow! Ignorance on display.

I normally drive 75-80mph. I was merely trying to pass the guy. 9k lbs or 4k lbs, if **** happens, it's gonna mess stuff up. If I didn't properly maintain my vehicle, and was confident it could travel at this speed, I would not do it. However I know my Excursion would be comfortable doing 95-97mph clear across the country without a mechanical mishap. The guy simply was trying to limit my speed. I see it all the time around here, and it makes me irate, especially when they do not signal to change lanes, turn, or stop at that big *** white line at stop signs, but rather pull a full car lenght in front of it, then stop. I can honestly say I obey every single traffic law and courtesy to the T, with the exception of hte speed limit. I do not ever impede anyone elses speed if they wish to pass me. I move over if someone comes behind me, BEFORE they have to slow down. I follow proper procedure at stop signs, I let people in front of me all the time. However with the speed limit, I know how fast I can drive safely, do not make reckless decisions, and keep control of my vehicle at all times, a whole lot more htan I can say for others.

I completely understand about jerks like that, as they think they own the freaking road, BUT, Just a thought......you can't control if a tire blows out! You could have killed me and or my family barreling down the road like that! Kind of thinking patience might have been the better thing in this situation! Glad nothing deadly came from your actions though! The worst part is that you let some jackass in a Porsche affect you like that, he actually won that battle getting the rise outta you even though you got around him. All that being said I cannot say that I wouldn't have done the same thing possibly ........

I can't believe I wasted my time reading this thread.

Your a dummie needing to drive 95mph in your Ex. Wake up earlier to give yourself more time to get to work. I'm sure your going to be the first one to type a thread when you get a speeding ticket, saying the cop/troopers need to do something else besides issuing tickets.

You arent making up that much time by driving 95mph unless you're on a long distance roadtrip.

unreal.

This thread is the greatest! Law breakers, name calling, racial slurs...its got everything. I think there's nothing more fun than latching the ex onto the back bumper of a little hot rod with the high beams on or getting beside them and crowding them to the curb. Little tricks I've had pulled on me when I've traveled for business in my Accord, especially by tour bus drivers.

Size does matter don't let anybody tell you differently.

I see stupid people!

I don't care how confident any member of this forum is in the mechanical condition of their Excursion.... or how confident they are in their own driving skills. It's about what other drivers do. It takes only a split second to lose control of a top heavy 8,000 pound SUV like an Excursion. And this results in killing yourself, your passengers, or other motorists. 95 mph and 97 mph is just too fast in an Excursion! Period!

In an Excursion, I'll agree.
Although not within the written law, I remember some instances with a Pantera I used to own long ago, on some very lonely and rural roads...... too fast never entered my mind, and the only likely inflicted damage and injury in such instance would have been purely to myself.

Chill guys - Please....

none are perfect, save one

Yes, the speed limiter is a manufactured limit in the engine control module that any tuner can disable, yes, most of us have it turned off....

SHOULD we drive that fast, no, not unless an emergency...
DO we drive that fast ? EVERY trip I've been on the last 5 years have been passed by those going at least 90....

Which is about 10 mph over the speed limit the interstate curvatures, etc, where designed for back when most were built....
(I used to work at one of the consulting firms that did a lot of the cad/cam work...)

can a well maintained truck run at that speed for a short burst,
probably so...

can it do it for a long while ?

It depends - do you have hi speed tires ? are they properly inflated ?
are you overloaded ? is it during the summer when hi temps will add to the tire temps and generate tire failure quicker ????

I don't, they are, , usually, and not usually
so I typically stay below 80....

but that's up to me, cuz it's my truck and my driving and my family....
(and my ticket )
