Now lost in all this were the two questions I forgot to ask. What exactly is the range on this puppy and how long is the run time? I'm hoping it's over 300ft and more than 10 minutes.
Range is ~300' on the system you installed. The bi-directional system is the one that has a range of ~1000'...
Whats the deal on the bi-directional? I would guess that means, "a notification that the truck was started" ??? I have the 11 King Ranch, and to my knowledge, I do not have the bi-directional, just the regular remote start. What is the upgrade info on that?

I was going to get the bi directional one but they are backordered. It's a separate aentenna that you route up the passenger side pillar. You also have a seperate keyless fob that goes with it. It simply lights up to confirm that the truck started. It looks like it can be added on but I don't think you can buy the extra pieces. You have to buy the whole kit, which included some of the parts you already have.
The range it quite good on the non bi remote and if you can see the truck the double flashing of the lights will confirm it received the command. The rear lights being on confirms the start.
Also, with fords since the 1990s, you can hold the key fob to your chin and get about 50 aditional feet. Try it. It works. I've been doing it for 15 years .
The remote start will only work with trucks equipped with power locks.
And you'll need the hood switch if you don't already have it.

Never heard that one. I'll have to do some experimenting.

Yeah, I found that button the other day when getting the oil changed in the truck. It is a little rubber covered push button that looks kind of like a chainsaw primer button. I just checked, the truck will not start remotley if the hood is at first stage open, or fully open.
I do not have factory alarm. Will factory alarm work with the current Key remote starter I currently have?

I don't believe so.
Here's a post from awhile back over on thedieselstop. Granted it's from June but I still don't think there's anything that incorporates both functions into the same factory fob. If there is I'd like to know because I'd probably go ahead and get the alarm.
Well it all fell through. There is no alarm available for a 2011 SD with factory remote start. The remote start requires that the doors be locked first, setting all aftermarket alarms and the factory alarm to armed. Then you hit the remote start button which flashes the lights on the mirror, puts the guages in standby mode and starts the vehicle. All that activity sets the alarm off.
The only way they could make it work is with a second FOB so that you disarm the alarm, then start the truck but to start the truck you have to hit the remote door lock first, so they would have to disable the remote door lock from arming the alarm.
Thanks fz1dave & Big Ruth. The truck does have the power locks so I'm OK there. The range is not a problem as it is only parked about 50ft away and I can see if it starts or not.
Does anyone know if this is the same system as would be used in a 2010? I know a lot of interior stuff carried over but I don't know if this would. The factory literature on my 2010 shows remote start as an option so I would imagine there is a good chance that it would be an easy install but if it's this easy I'll probably do it sooner than later.

2011 is the first year for a plug-n-play style remote start. All prior years use a different kit that requires slicing and dicing of wires...
I just got my 2011 KR 350. It's got the one-way factory remote start. The range is okay, but I sure miss the two-way I had on my old 250. I do not, however, miss the fob. Having it as part of the key is really quite nice.
