Injectors?.....?

Well, now that the temps are getting into the 40s and 50s, my truck has been getting harder to start. It has 8 new glow plugs, and the relay is working, because it always starts pretty quick, it just goes romp, romp, romp for a few seconds after it starts (and lots of white smoke)

I am thinking worn/sticking injectors (239,000 on original inj.) because once in a blue moon it will start right up (no romping) but that is a rare occurance.

Ideas?

I can try that.

It just seems like an injector problem, because it starts quickly, even when it goes romp romp romp. I've had bad glow plugs before and usually it doesn't start, period. or it takes a lot of cranking. This here only takes 2-4 seconds at most.

i could be wrong but this is free and couple GP's can cause the romps and white smoke the reason i say that is ihave new GP's that don't ohm at all from UVCH mine does the same thing fire's right up with the romps and temps or in the 40&50's here in the morning

white smoke on startup signifies that he's having some fuel issues.
with a working GPR and Glow plugs, he is dumping more fuel than the motor is ready for, which generally happens with bigger injectors when its cold.
Mine smokes unless its hot out.

My truck would start up well with the broken nozzle springs, but would romp and shutter for a bit then run fine.

Time for Stage I's! Send them to Jim. I'm sure they at least need o-rings and nozzle springs, and your pluger/barrels are probably worn also.
Mine were getting worn with only 170k on them and I had 4 broken nozzle springs.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking!!!!

I have a spare set of injectors that I would send in to have done so I woudn't have any down time.

And Tayln, That seems like what is happening, it starts quite quickly but just goes romp romp for a few seconds. Also, on a side note, every time I start it, warm or cold, it starts fime, but the idle drops to 350-400 and then comes back up and sets at 550-575 as normal. Could this be related?

Thanks for the help guys!

Thats a low idle. but I think mine idled low like that with my sticks.
All of my nozzle springs were broken.
Jim asked me how it ran. haha. He said it should have barley idled.

Sucker rocked really good, I liked that part. haha.

My EGTs are slightly higher in this truck than my last one, and they spike quicker. Could this be caused by bad/worn injectors?

I'm thinking that it could. Tolerances off means injection isnt as precious as it should be. I bet i have a couple of broken springs. Mine lopes sometimes and it seems to have a slightly higher egt with electric fuel.
More fuel psi could make the spring problem more aparant?
