It's nice in today's economic environment where we will drive 5 miles to save 4 cents/gallon for fuel to occasionally land a great deal. Yesterday I fuelled up at the local Get-Go.
30 gallons
$0.199/gal
$5.97 total
The receipt is in my album, but it isn't very clear. The Get-Go promotion has proven to be very profitable for me.
Anyone else know about good deals or promotions in your area?
It's a promotion that a local grocery chain runs. It's $.10/gal off for every $50 spent in the store. They sell gift cards for restaurants, home improvement stores, airlines, etc. which add to the total. Every time I fly, remodel or eat out I earn discounts. I love it! I seldom pay full price for fuel. This trip I cashed in on flying my daughter home from Seattle.
I have seen incentives for fuel purchase from grocery stores, where after so much in the way of grocery purchase, you get .10 cents a gallon discount.. But never anything like that!
And they must be making money on it somehow, because they keep expanding on the promotion. It's been in place for a couple years. Now you get discounts on groceries when you buy fuel too. I think this is a brilliant promotion. I'm surprised other companies haven't started doing this.
In Oregon, the Safeway grocery chain occasionally offers a 10 cent per gallon discount for ever $75 in purchases. You can't combine them, though, so it's just .10 per gallon off of one fill up, at Safeway gas stations and the fill is limited to $75.
Oh, and only grocery store out here in the middle of nowhere is a Safeway, so I tend to rack up a lot of the discounts. BUT ... The nearest Safeway with a gas station is 200 miles away.
we got a price chopper here thats the same way... we never got around to the fuel deal... will have to get a 100 gal tank on a trailer for when I finally do cash in
ok, so let's talk reality.... #1 the oil industry has 9,000 government leases they have chosen NOT to drill on..... their choice not the government as the permits have long been issued and are good for up to 10 years for site ops to begin. 2nd, on the west coast, specific to Long Beach, 97% of ALL the oil we produce is "exported"... how do I know, ah, 1) I have "worked" in that business and 2) my family has "oil rights" which Exxon/Mobile sends the mother-in-law a check each moth with a report of how much, where it was refined and where it was shipped to....
During the peak of the pandemic 2020.... at that point just in Texas alone 85 oil drilling contractors (that the majors sub-contracted to for site ops) went bankrupt... closed their doors and walked away. Are there industry issues- yes..... did we fail to ensure the protection of the "oil supply chain"- yes, are we still (industry specific) in recovery mode...you bet!
