Ratcheting feeling in steering

I own a '94 F250 w/ 460 and automatic transmission. When I do hard turning, I can feel a ratcheting feeling through the steering column. Anybody have an ideas as to what may be causing this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Ratcheting feeling in steering

Check 2 things:

1) Make sure the power steering belt isn't loose.
2) Check the power steering fluid level.

Ratcheting feeling in steering

could also be your tires slipping from either bald tread or big chunky soft tread blocks. also might be oversize tires rubbing somewhere in the wheelwell.
