automatic door locks at 5mph

Is my 01 EX equiped with automatic door locks that lock over a certain speed?

If so, they aren't working.

Is it tied into the GEM control unit?

I have the a GEM control unit on my 01?

Does the GEM also control the door ajar light/interior lights?

Mine does not seem to have that feature, thank God. For some reason those automatic door lock things give me nightmares of being trapped in a wrecked vehicle with no way to unlock the doors.

It has to be programed to do it. Instructions in your owners manual tells you how to.

2002+ trucks have the auto lock feature, it was never available on 2000 and 2001 trucks.

My 02 locks, but what about unlocking? Is that a programmable feature? I would like for them to unlock after I put it in park.

yeah i had it in my '04 but not in my '00. which kinda upsets me because my '96 explorer has this! wtf!

anyhow i have a aftermarket(viper) remote start/alarm which can be programed to autolock/unlock kinda like factory. this may be a option for some if they want.

I hated that feature, it was so annoying. I turned it off. All you do is punch a code into the door pad. All doors would lock but only the drivers door would unlock, thus when getting other people into the truck they'd be locked out until i went around and opened my door and unlocked it. Then again we don't have any reason to lock doors around here either. I leave my truck at work in the lot unlocked, and unlocked in my driveway overnight.

Ever since I watched a police pursuit live on TV here in S. Calif. where the suspect got out of his car, ran to the car next to him, got in and pushed the driver out and sped off with the driver still hanging by the seat belt, I lock all my doors when driving. The suspect was a big guy...over 200 lbs.

You're lucky there aren't much crazies where you are.

exactly, crazies are the reason i got the best alarm i could afford! that feeling after you've been broke into is a bad one. i've had it both with home and car and it sinks to the bottom of your gut and you dont feel safe for awhile.

I know what you mean, but I had the opposite reaction...

Someone broke into my truck November of '09 and as soon as I heard the pager go off (and whether they were armed or not) I was charged and ready to rumble with the individual who was ready to meet his maker.

Living in The Great State of Texas, soon and very soon, I will be supplementing my truck and home alarm with Mr.Smith and Mr.Wesson and maybe a Glock as a backup side-arm. If someone feels the need to break into my home or truck, it'll be the last thing they do...'nuff said.

Let's get back on track...

Oh i miss texas...

I have found that if they want in, they're getting in. I'd rather not have them destroy my door in the process. Car jacking, where i live, well... Are you gonna try and jack the 350lb guy with the beard down to is gut and arms the size of your legs in a big truck, or some candy *** in a prius next to him?
