Easiest/best may be to swap in a later axle, but I found a web page that talked about doing it for early Broncos. Unfortunately the conversion involves the "C" word. http://www.vintagebronco.com/colobro.../discconv.html "This conversion works because the Chevy spindles will bolt directly onto the Ford Bronco Dana 44 front axle AND the Ford hubs and wheel bearings will work on the Chevy spindles AND the Ford rotors work with the Chevy calipers"
Thanks for the reply and the info, but as you can see by my name. I'm a Fordman. I prefer to use Ford on Ford, but I really do appreciate the help. Thanks again!!
Well, just because they fit on a C%%%% doesn't mean they are 100% GM components. Maybe Dana/Spicer supplied them to GM. Check a swap book; see if those spindles were used on other brands (Jeep? Dodge?).
I'll be using GM style calipers and pads on my Ford, but I choose to think of them as Raybestos or Wagner parts.
Thanks for the info. I see where you are coming from. This front end is similar to the Dana 44 on the later models with the wiper ball type set up. The wiper ball is smaller then the later models. I've heard that these were not very strong. I might be better off swapping a newer model in. The stock 292 will be replaced with either a 390 or 428. I have not decided yet. Both will have well over 400HP. I'm swapping in 59 F250 4x4 running gear into my 59 panel. I appreciate the help.
GM even used Ford parts on some of their cars. A co-worker of mine, Pontiac nut and Ford hater, ordered a brand new '69 Firebird with the HD 4 spd tranny. One day a few months after he got it, he put it up on the rack to change the oil. I was just looking around underneath it and happened to notice on the HD 4spd tranny, cast in, FoMoCo. He really came unglued when he saw that. Don't think he ever owned another Pontiac.

Is this the undersized knuckle fasteners tearing out or snapping you are talking about? That's a real problem if you are four-wheeling...
'69 Firebird with the HD 4 spd tranny
Those were HD 3 speed trannies if I remember correctly. Had something to do with a GM tranny plant burning down or something. Of course it wasn't the first time that happened to GM. The Hydramatic plant burned sometime around 60, and that's why all of sudden 2 speed auto's showed up across the board.
Adios,
