I checked the codes on my 92 f150 302 auto. Below are the codes it blinked out..
KOEO test..
327, 328, 337 – EGR
628 – Excess Torque converter slippage
634- MLP Manual lever position not at expected voltage.
KOER:
538 – Insufficient RPM change during Dynamic response check.
OK, I can check and test the EGR. Code 628 Torque converter slippage, Should I be concerned about this code? I was plowing last week could that have thrown this code?
Can shed some light on codes 634 and 538? I have no Idea.
634 refers to the sensor that tells the tranny what gear it's supposed to be in. Similar to the Transmission Range Sensor on later models. They crap out with a bit too much regularity. I've never replaced one, but I recall reading it's a $20-30 dollar part
The MLP Sensor isn't to hard to replace. It bolts onto the side of the tranmission on the shifter linkage. If I recall right the one for my Mark VIII cost about $50 from one of the internet Ford sites. I had a code for the sensor also. My symptoms were the transmission would downshift for no apparent reason. Replaced the sensor and it has been fine since.
538 means there was a flash telling you to stomp the gas pedal while the engine was running, and you didn't. The Haynes manual tells exactly which flash it is.
I checked the EGR with a vacuum pump. I think it was stuck after moving it a bit I got it to operate. I then made a plate to just block it. Then installed the new O2. Reset the computer. Started it up and the Truck runs great! It used to have a hard time maintaining 65 on the highway with hills. Not anymore, has no problem with the hills. I beat my MPG goes up..
After my test drive, I checked the codes again and it just blinked 111’s. I will have to check them again and see if the other codes come back…
