I installed Infinity 6x8's in the front doors and like the sound. Is it worth the effort to modify the ex/cab doors to fit two more Infinity 6x9's instead of the 6x8's factory fit? Is there a noticeable bass advantage to the 6x9's 46HZ over the 6x8's 49HZ? I'm concerned the 6x8's may be a little weak in that department.
One other question. I'm using the factory radio with no pre-outs for an amp. If I want to add a spare amp to run a sub woofer, what do I use instead of pre-outs for input's to the amp? Do I tap into a speaker output or is that a no-no? I'm not too savvy on audio setup.
I'm of the opinion, mid range speakers shouldn't be used to produce sounds a subwoofer is better suited to. If you're going to add subs, don't worry about the 3hz difference.
You have two options for hooking up an amp. The first being getting an amp with speaker level inputs, which you directly plug your speaker wiring into. The second is adding a Line Out Converter (LOC) which changes sort of the speaker level down to RCAs and you use RCA patch cords to connect the LOC to the amp. I'm running the second setup, LOC to crossover/eq to amp. I used the rear speaker wires for the amp/crossover because I can fade the sound forward which makes my front speakers a little louder and sets the sound stage a little tighter. Then when I upgrade, I'll use the crossover to define the stage better.
Thanks for the reply. I just purchased another set of infinity 6x8's for the ext/cab doors. I'll mount these and see if the bass is good, if not I'll see if I can add a 10" sub I have under the rear seat.
