just bought my 06 250hd edition. 55k on it. want to chip it but not sure if its a good idea. I have the extended dealer warranty until 100k or 3 years. so 45k miles its under warranty. If i buy the sct with custom tune am I gonna have issues wether i beat on it or not?? I obviously plan on giving er but not all day everyday. All my friends say dont chip it. sorry for the long post
3 years from 2 weeks ago 3 years 45k. currently has 55k so 100k or 3 years whichever comes first. I dont neccesarily need it just want it. Only thing I ever will pull is a 16ft enclosed trailer for my flooring business. I just like to have all the bells and whistles i guess.
Back to your original question, there is more to it than just chipping it, especially after only owning that truck 2 weeks. I would drive it the way it is until you know for sure its gonna be a good truck. While doing that look into doing some of the things needed before you run a tuner like guages.
First thing I would do is make sure all the maintence is done, and if your not sure do it. Dont skimp on cheap filters and fluids either, in a 6.0 it will bite ya.
I think the most important thing you could do is install some guages tuned or not. Some of the important ones are , fuel pressure, ECT, EOT, exhaust temp., Trans. temp, etc.
Once you have that covered then and only then would I tune my truck. If I did tune my truck, and I have a tuner, I would only purchase a tuner that installs custom tunes only. Not a Bank, Edge, or any other "shift on the fly" type programmer.
As for consiquences, well remeber that these trucks have issues when stocked. If your dealer is against mods, and you do the tuner, you just wasted your money on that waranty. I would start by asking if they would mind if you installed guages and see what they say. If its no well then you have a decision to make.
Did you buy a Ford or a A/M warranty. If its a A/M waranty you will have problems trying to get things covered anyway...I speak from experience.
i couldnt buy the ford warranty because it was a chevy dealership. so its an aftermarket warranty but before i purchased it I asked to make sure what it covered and have a pamphlet on what it covers. Cause i heard that aftermarket warranties can be ****. but they said only when purchasing it thru a small car place they arent legit. what experiences have u had??
Now i know dealers are bs ers but the finance lady told me that it was a legit and good warranty. She didnt even ask me to get it I brought it up since I heard about all of these issues with the 6.0. and the warranty is supposedly good at any ford dealership as well. If that even makes a difference??

Hopefully you got a good waranty, however, my dealings with a/m warranties involved not paying the full labor rate or time, now you are on the hook for the rest, wanting to use a/m parts or used parts, sorry recycled parts, and the list goes on. I would be very concerned about what is actually covered with that warranty, and I am sure that you spent a prety penny for it too.
If you ae worried about this engine the way it is then I would STRONGLY recomend leaving it alone. If you are not mechanically inclined or dont know much about diesels especially the 6.0 just drive it the way it is.
I would take it to a FORD dealer in your area and get an inpsection done on it, get an Oasis report, while you still have the 30 day left. Make sure that truck is up to par.
yea I meant a tuner not a chip. Cant the tuners also mess up everything as well?? I am going to take it to a guy as well to inspect the engine. What exactly is an oasis report. As far as the mechanically inclined part I am somewhat but never owned or touched a diesel. Def wont be doing any repairs on this truck myself. But i want to re-iterate again that I meant I wanted to get a tuner not a chip. Didnt know there was a difference??

Good Luck and Welcome to the Fun World of the 6.0

So I checked on the today and its actually a GMC A/M warranty since i purchased the truck from a GM dealer. So i dunno if that makes a difference to a ford A/M warranty. But the dealer sold me the warranty with the 8" lift and 37's on the truck. One would think that voids it as well...??? But they sold it to me and she specifically said it covers your truck... makes me wonder...

That doesn't sound kosher to me. There are dealerships here that will sell tuners on their vehicles. The thing is, you would have to go to that dealership for all future warranty repairs, there is no promise that the dealership down the road will honor whatever arrangement you have with the previous one.
As to chips and/or tuners causing problems, they all have the potential to do so. However, chips is an outdated term and technology and there really aren't any "chips" that are for the 6.0. You have either Modules or Tuners. Modules are typically shift on the fly, very very very very very very very very bad. You may not have issues with one, but if you do it'll be very big and expensive(typically a tranny issue). Tuners can be a problem, however, if you go with custom tunes and get the tunes written by a good tune writer, if something breaks it's usually because the owner was driving it in such a manner that caused it to break.
I would research very heavily(not fun to do, but it's the cheapest thing to do) into what you are thinking about modding and how you are wanting to do it. The 6.0 is very quirky with it's modding, do it right it'll last, do it wrong you'll be in debtor's prison before you know it.
If you can't afford repairs out of pocket then leave it stock. A/M warranties can be touchy when you did everything right, don't give them an excuse to deny you. They will be looking for one. Out of pocket pays better than warranty work. You do the math.
