I will agree with Chris on the oil in the tailpipe issue. From what I have read, not experienced. The miss MIGHT be a loose uvc harness. This is located under the valve cover. Just a guess. The hiss, my first ? is, do you have an aftermarket air intake? It seems to me that mine was louder on the hiis after changing tha air intake to the 6637.

I have a S-B CAI and a 4" TB exhaust and I get the Hiss when it shifts, including the more pronounced going into OD. I assumed that was normal, hope it is.
I will check the oil, have not yet today although full when I left. The air filter is from Riffraff 6637 and this is the first trip crusin with it. I will reinstall the factory one to be sure. The exhaust is 5" straight through, and was that way when I purchased it. That may be the miss sound I hear because I'm sure the sound from it is different then the 97 I just sold with 3" straight through. The 97 just sounded great crusin, nice and even, but 2000 sounds like it's just not right.
If this was your first trip with the 6637, then as Wayne said, that could be your hiss. Those filters make some different sounds, but a hiss is normal.
Just checked the oil, down maybe 1/2 qt from the trip. Will have to figure out how to check shaft play. Is there a write up with pic's on this anywhere ?

A 1/2 quart doesn't sound too bad, so I'd relax a little if I were you. Checking the shaft play is pretty easy. Remove the plastic tube that connects to the turbo. Then (with the engine off of course) reach in and grab the shaft at the center of the turbo wheel with your fingers. A little up and down or side to side play is fine as long as it does not look like the wheel has been scraping on the sides. There should be no in and out play on the shaft as you wiggle it with your fingers. If there is any in and out play in the shaft you need to rebuild your turbo before it goes boom or starts laying a smoke screen behind you.
