So today I replaced my power steering gear box because the dow on the pitman arm snapped. So I took the plastic wheel well off and to get the lines off the gear box and to remove the steering stem. Removed the wires that are pushed in on the fender well and pulled the plastic wheel well off. Didn't unhook anything expect lines going to and from the gear box.
Got everything back together and was headed home. I got on the highway noticed she was ******* alone just seemed like I had a big load on the back, which I did not have anything. Then when I let off the pedal it let out a long turbo fart. Then sitting at a stand still I noticed looking at everything I had my buddy press on the pedal and give it some gas while I listened to it. He revd it up to about 2000 rpms and let off and again it did the turbo fart. It also had a higher than usual whistle coming through the intake. He then shut the truck off and as it was spooling down it sounded like it was turbo farting again for a second and then a heavy sucking noise.
What could it be? Its a 2003 F350 with 107200 miles on it. Turbo was cleaned about a thousand miles ago, EGR valve has been disconnected because of it acting up... plugged it back in but made no difference
Like I said while driving and not pushing the pedal to the metal it will still do this if i dont gradually let off the throttle..I'm just driving normal...
Dont know if you can really hear it just listen after the rev up and when its shut off...you can hear it for a second on shutoff too...its like a blowing sound...
When the turbo was disassembled for cleaning, what was the condition of the unison ring, particularly cam pivot slot? If it was elongated on either end even the slightest, it should've been replaced. Also I notice your signature indicates a 2003 model year. 2003 model years that have had the PCM reflash under Ford's 06E17 program use what's called "inferred EBP" to determine the appropriate turbo boost needed under varying condtions. So instead of using EBP input, the way late-2004 and up engines do, 2003 use MAF, A/C on-off, MAP and other PCM inputs to determine VGT output. I also notice you're using one of those K & N air intake systems. Those are known to bugger up MAF sensors when the oil that's used to clean the filter gets onto them. This means MAF readings that go out of whack WILL affect turbo boost command. I would start by disassembling the turbo again to check the condition of the unison ring and center rotating housing assembly and repair as needed. Also re-install the factory air intake and see if that corrects the problem you are having.
Thanks m-chan appericate it...I'll look over it, just seems so weird that it was fine in the morning when I went to go change my brakes which turn out to be chaning out my steering gear box...but anyways i was also thinking the something with the turbo or linked to the turbo..but had no clue.
So this center unison ring, what does it look like... and the cam pivot slot...I have never removed the turbo from here last time Ford did to clean when I had the whole problem with the hpop and egr cooler..is it difficult to do in my driveway?

Ok so today I went out and looked at everything and took out my inner fender well that I had out yesterday and was making sure the powersteering gear box wasnt leaking. I put the fender well back in and this time clipped all the harnesses back to the plastic fenderwell and went and started my truck to park it in the street. This is where the weird starts.
I pulled it out and it seemed to be running better than before so I took it down the street. No more turbo fart at every rpm when I would let off. No more sluggish feeling nothing...could it have just been that theres a loose wire on the harness that connects to the fender well and if its not connected to the fender well it might just pull it one way or the other and make it have a faulty connection?
