hey yall, i got my 302 all apart and i just sent it to the machine shop yesterday. well today i was helpin my shop teacher clean out the shop at school and we started piling up old motors and trannys that people have left over the years. as we were cleaning i found an old 351 and asked if i could have it and he said yea. the motor is in good condition, it was someone elses project from a few years ago, it has a new crank pistons and rods and rings and cam.but its missing wverything else ( or at least i havent found the other parts yet) but any ways wat i was wandring is wat parts would fit off my 302 to the 351.
thanks
for the most part i believe so cause pretty much the 351 w was a stroked version of the 302 with a taller deck but it depends on what you got if its a windsor, modified, or cleveland
If it is a 351 Windsor, the heads, timing cover, oil pan, engine mounts, etc. will all bolt up. The only thing that will be different, will be the intake manifold, and the distributor. The 351 Windsor has a taller deck height, due to the engine having a longer stroke.
thanks yall, is it gonna run like a 351 wen its done. and will all the other parts fit like the water pump and little stuff like that?
The water pump and timing cover will be the same. The accessory brackets "should" work.
There is a good book called Ford Performance, By Pat Ganahl. It covers everything from 289 to 460.
It will only work if it' s a 351-W block. The 302 heads will fit,all 351's are the same bore as the 302 (4.00"),so that wont be a problem. You probably will have to drill out the bolt holes in the heads. You will need a 351-W intake manifold. On the other hand,if it is a 351-C or 351-M block the 302 heads should still bolt on but there is no intake manifold available for this particular swap.It should run similar to a late '70's 351-W,they used the small valve 302 heads. One last thing, depending on the size of the combustion chambers the 302 heads might raise your compression. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the compression ratio of the 351 pistons.Good luck.
thanks 79 forgot about that one dooh!!! there was something else that was a bolt on that does work and i dont remember what it is.........thinking.....thinking..........thunk it...........nope its gone
