Ill take a picture when it comes out of the shop. I got a Leer 180 with the wilderness package and a front tipper/slider window (and some extra goodies inside). I'm on round two with the order, so lets hope this one came out right
Looking forward to seeing some pics. Do us a favor and take some pics with and without the cap. I personally think those Leer caps look really sharp. They're also mandatory up here in the Pacific NorthWet.
I'm also looking forward to seing it. I would love to have one, but its like buying clothes, You have to try em on to see how they look first.
I hope you like yours.
Eagerly awaiting the pics here as well. I go back and forth on whether I want a cap, mainly because the truck looks so darn good as it sits. But, we haul a lot of stuff, for work and leisure, and the security and weather protection of a cap are hard to beat. If you don't mind, let us know a ballpark price also.
Sorry for not posting yesterday. I got home, packed the truck, and took off in to the woods for the night
Heres a couple shots for ya.
I don't have a whole lot of pictures to choose from without the cap so hopefully this is enough.
The cap was around $2300. I don't know what the base price was or the options, but I got the Wilderness Package - locking box, fold-down coat hanger, lights, carpet liner, roof rack. I added a front removable/sliding window, hard wired second light, and the power outlets. Although, I am going to re-wire it all. They hooked the power to the cap through the trailer wiring which has switched power = need to have the key on to get any juice in the back. I am going to split the power to the lights off a switch in the cab and inside the cap so I can turn them on/off regardless of the key being on. I am going to run a 10g wire to the back for my radios and run the power outlets off the same run for constant power. It will be fused - everything is run off a 50a breaker under the hood. I don't know about having a switch for it, but that might be a thought too.
When I get a chance I am going to weld up a set of grates to cover the windows on the inside. That way its less likely for being broken in to/having stuff stolen. The one for the back window will be interesting - the tailgate locks so if I make it fold along with the window that would allow easy access and then tuck back behind the tailgate to lock in place. I am thinking maybe 1/4" or 3/8" rod.
Visibility isn't too bad with the cap on. This was one thing I wasn't sure about. With the huge tow mirrors on the SD visibility is rarely an issue around anything anyway, but I still like to see out my back window. The side windows on the cap still allow a decent amount of visibility out that way.
The rack on top is a bit too high to make good use of. Tieing anything to it will be a PITA. The back rack isn't too hard to get to standing on the bumper, but theres no good way to get to the front rack without a ladder... Oh well, its there if I need it.
If you go back to the picture of the inside - what I want to do is make a shelf that is on top of the rail on the right side, a little less than half way across the width of the bed. This way I can put stuff underneath and have a place to put my sleeping pad/bag. This was one of the reasons I wanted the 180 model - it is a mid-height cap and has more head room than a cab-high model. Sitting on the rail I had an adequate amount of head room.
That looks great, thanks for the update. I sent in a quote request to my local Leer dealer after seeing your pictures. I don't want/need all the options you have, but I really like the looks of that cap. Just curious, do they remove the rail protectors from the truck bed in order to mount the cap?

The rail caps and all stay on. Yea, the cap doesn't look to bad on there if I do say so myself. Now the truck is in the useability state I had intended. It took over a month but thats the way it goes. The hard tonneu I had on my old truck was nice - but I always ran in to problems with space and height. I can't say that I'll have enough space all the time under this cap, but of all the times I needed more room in the old truck at least I know 99% of those times I had to take the tonneu off are times I can leave the cap on. Not to mention when I'm done with the inside of it I'll have a camper with me everywhere I go - never know when I'll need a place to crash Sure beats sleeping in the back seat. I did that more times in the old truck than I'd ever care to repeat.
I took some detail pictures just now. Let me get those all loaded and I'll give another update so you guys can see more of the "workings" of the cap.
Hey scububbs - one option you need to get is the removable front window. You can get it either as a slider or solid glass. If you don't get it cleaning the windows is impossible. Other than that, the other options are just that - get what you'll use, if any.
OK, here are my detail shots. I didn't take any of the rack on top though.
The tailgate molding seals pretty well from the bottom. Theres a rubber gasket that rubs against the tailgate pretty well. The molding is fairly flimsy though, I can see if I'm not careful with it the molding could break (especially when it gets really cold).
The wires in the loom go to the lights. I am not sure why they didn't put the outlet wire in there too? I'll play around with it when I get my 10g wire run through. I will have a switch somewhere around here for the inside lights too. I need to get them wired to a constant 12v source first, though.
Here is a better shot of the rail I mentioned earlier. I want to make a shelf that sits on top here and goes maybe to half way across the bed as a place I can roll out my sleeping pad and bag. I am not sure if I'll carpet it, though it would make a nice touch. It will be at the perfect height.
The front window is removable. The latches are circled here. The window tips back and lifts completely out. Without this option it will be impossible to clean between the windows very well. You can also see the locking box and the fold down coat hanger (black rectangle).
The locking gun box here is made out of sheet metal lined with carpet. The edge around the opening is still pretty rough as it is steel sheet metal, but it does make a nice spot to store some things - and it locks. It isn't the greatest quality over all, but from the manufacturing side they need to keep the weight of these things down as much as they can. I personally wouldn't mind a heavier cap for better quality.
This is the area between the bed and the cab. You can see how much overlap there is on the side and also the seal in the front. It is rubber and meshes down pretty well over the bed liner for a nice seal.
Dang...that looks nice. Way too much for me. Plus with a 5th wheel, wouldn't work anyway. But the match on the color is great. Don't you just love this Forest Green. With the Pueblo Gold accent, it works great.
Looks great. I had a Leer 100 installed on my old Tundra in 02' it had the same options...back then they called it the "Browning Package"....It was an excellent cap, I've been to cheap to buy another since then but would like to get one for the Super Duty if I end up deciding to keep it for the long haul, the cap you got is ideal in my opinion.
