Don't you just love this Forest Green. With the Pueblo Gold accent, it works great.
Yep. My two top color choices were the green and copper - both two tones with pueblo gold. I would have liked to have a king ranch with the color matched bumpers and steps/running boards, but all things considered this lariat was way too close and was a decent enough deal to make it well worth it. I'm happy Its not totally done, but at least with the cap on there I can use it the way I intended - keep all my crap in there with plenty of room.
The cap looks great Steve. The gun case is a great option.
I'll be looking for one now. They pay for them selfs quickly in bad weather.
Thanks for the pics.
Get one, you won't regret it. They can come off too, you just can't go the other way around if you don't have one
I am going to get a set of rails for a goose neck, and maybe 5th, myself, so the cap will come off at some point. For normal every day use though the cap is an absolute must. I'll have to find out how much it weighs. I never asked and I never lifted it to get any idea. I would guess 200lbs, if not more.
Looks great. My neighbor has the same canopy on his 04 and it seems like it's really high quality. His truck is silver and he put on a black canopy with black moto metal wheels. Looks pretty sharp. I think you'll love the versatility of the canopy.
I wasn't a fan of truck caps before I bought my SD. The cap was on it when I bought it and I decided to leave it. It didn't take long to appreciate how useful it is!
What are toppers costing in the US?
I was quoted nearly 3k for a topper today. 3K?
Any tips appreciated.
Depending on what options you are looking in to I don't see this as out of the question. Some caps you can get a remote keyless system installed - just like the key fob for your truck, theres one for the cap. If you were quoted that for a fairly basic cap then something is goofy for sure. I would think you could get a cab-high cap starting around $1200. There are also companies that make aluminum ones instead of fiberglass. The aluminum ones are lighter and don't match the style of the truck, but they are certainly an option.
Jason - thanks. Its very functional, and will get moreso over time.
By the way, I wonder how many people even notice the GBT in your sig pic. I sat and looked at it for a few seconds before it hit me what was in the background...

I've said this before on a few other threads, but figured I'd post it again. If you plan on removing it, you gotta check this system out: www.topcaplift.com . I have one in my garage holding my 8' cap from my old truck. Very easy to lift off of the truck and raise to the ceiling (if you have the room). I don't work for 'em or know anyone that does, but it took me a long time to find a decent setup to take my cap off, and removing it myself (off of a truck with 37's on it) was beginning to get cumbersome.
BTW- nice lookin' setup! Can't wait to get my new truck ordered!

The topper is a great complement to your truck and like others have said, the color scheme is a winner.
I've got a similar type, Century - Royal fiberglass topper and it took four strong men to lift, rotate (it was flipped on its top during preparation) and install on the truck. The thing weighs around 220# and the lift height is what makes it so cumbersome. I looked at the aftermarket camper top lift rigs but none of them addressed the "skirt" issue we have on our toppers. You just can't set the topper down on the skirt...it won't support the weight. You may be able to modify the lift to accomodate some sort of blocking equipment to elevate the topper and clear the skirt but it will take some thinking on that part.
I'm thinking about installing the power lock on the topper and for the tailgate too.
Happy camping and again, the truck looks good with the camper top.
The latches freeze REAL nice. Now I carry my propane torch and lighter in my cab and not my box-O'-junk in the bed. After all, heat won't do any good on unlocking the truck when its locked inside
I had this problem with my Leer 700 tonneu on my old truck. It was the older style latch - the metal round push button, not the lever/T-handle thingy with the flip up keyhole cover. The metal push button took heat a lot better than the plastic casing of the T-handles on my new cap. Gotta watch it with the flame!
So far the cap doesnt leak. The only place water gets in the bed is under the tailgate. I need one of those tailgate seals... All in all, I am very happy with the functionality of this cap. It makes a world of difference over the tonneu on my old truck. I am not limited to what I can put in there and what I can do. I can live with the frozen locks.
Another issue I have run in to is I mounted one of my Ham radio antennas and my becon light to the Thule rack on top. The only way for me to get to the mount in the center of the roof is to get up there from a step ladder - as in crawl on to the roof. I don't like staying on the ladder and trying to lean over - I have to reach way too far over to be safe. Its easier just crawling on top.
I may get a third rack bar to put in the rear. My bars are about 8" apart in the front for the antenna/becon mount and isn't useable for putting cargo on top. I haven't had to haul anything up there, but before Field Day next year I will put a third bar up top so I can load up my antenna masts.
One thing I do that seems to help is, I occasionally spray a little WD-40 into the lock mechanism. I didn't have any freezing problems after I started doing that last winter.
I had forgot about that problem until I read this post. I need to do that for this winter before they freeze up for the first time, if its not too late already! Thanks for the reminder
I filled my locks with Fluid Film. I tried to get my extension chord that I use for my block heater out of the back when I got back home tonight and the locks were froze. I even snapped my key off in the hole I'll screw with the lock later. With my luck it will be 5deg with 40mph winds. Oh what fun.
I never broke a key with my old cap. I bent them, but never broke one - and that lasted me 6 years. I've had this cap for 3 months and snapped a key.. Go figure.
The big 2 issues with the propane torch method are 1 the torch doesn't like the wind and 2 the flame melts/ignites the plastic housing of the T handle. It does warm up the lock though.
