When I got my Aero the liftgate didn't want to open. I assumed it was a dead handle. However, I took the complete mechanism apart, and the worst case scenario came up: The latch seems to be dead. I can push or pull the rod as much as I want, nothing clicks. Trying to reach the latch mechanism itself through the hole is impossible due to sausage fingers.
How can I open this #$%& latch without force?
On a side note: Them Aero are most solid cars I've seen since I was working on 60's Mercedes....
Been there done that. here's how.
The latch rusted up. While holding the handle or mechanism to the open position hit the door with a sledge hammer from the inside. Put a 16" 2x4 along the bottom of the door and whack it with the 3lb sledge or whatever you have, it should release and then you need to buy a new mechanism..
Hope that does it for you...
Thanks for the answer and the one in the other thread I posted. I'll give it a try.
Was prepared to get either a new handle or a latch mechanism in any way. Local Ford dealer still has a lot of parts in stock (but that is a longer, very hilarious, story).
