Fuel selector valve

Awhile back my fuel selector valve went bad and the 6port valves are not cheap so i was wondering if the design below would work. Each tank would have a low pressure electric pump that would push the fuel to the motor. the fuel would push the ball to the opposite side of the valve blocking off the other tank. The pumps and the gauges would be controlled by a double pole single throw 2 position switch. still haven't figured out what to do with the return lines though.

I know that some of you don't like electric pumps on these IDIs but this is more of a proof of concept question then anything else.

You'll spend more money and time then it's worth ... Do you think Ford would have done it the like it is if there was an easier less expensive way to do it ...

There has to be a positive connection to both the supply and return switching valve!
So if one changes the other does as well.

would it be possible to just dump the return to one tank and not worry about switching it?

No, It must return to the tank it's feeding from else It'll over flow the tank ... The manual lift pump pumps about 35GPH, the motor doesn't use nearly that much, it goes through the return system!

Thus it would empty one tank into the other rather quickly.

if you dont want to pay the price of a new valve switch it over to a 6 port manual valve !!

Tried a u-pick-it wrecking yard? I got one there with the plastic fuel line for $30. Check the wiring connector. They are not all the same. To be safe, take the connector with enough wire to splice when you get back home

i forgot how expensive they were , you could also use 2 - 3 port valves

I thought someone here had found or used a generic valve from autozone or someplace, just took a bit of thinking to get the hoses and wiring hooked up?

i may just put my rear tank back in and hook up a pump to pull from the rear tank into the front should be the cheapest way to go.
