97 Explorer code 0174 & 0171

97 Explorer code 0174 & 0171
My 97 Explorer 5.0 has been lighting up the check engine light often. Code 0174 pops up, system too lean (bank 2). Any idea what may be causing this. Thx in advance I have adjusted the error code straight from the book. Added new code today 0171 system to lean (bank 1)

Thanks for the follow-up. Interesting that originally the MAF would set a code for a single cylinder bank as the air through the MAF feeds both cylinder banks. Hopefully this proves to be a long-term fix for you though....
Out of curiosity, are you using a OEM-style paper air filter or do you have an aftermarket oiled filter?

Okay, makes sense with the K&M that the MAF may be dirty. The oil from the filters has a tendency to coat the elements of the MAF. You'll probably notice a decent improvement in fuel economy now too.
