Injector codes

My 2005 Excursion has been running rough. It had noticeable power loss and a miss. It sounds fine at an idle but start missing at around 1000 rpm and is especially noticeable at speeds over 50, in OD w/ torque converter locked up. It shakes violently at even the sight of any small grade, until I take my foot out of it and get it to downshift. It was getting to the point of being undrivable, so I decided to try one of the programs on my Evolution. I used the tow safe program and it did help with the drivability aspect, however the miss was still present. Up until this point I was getting no codes, but in tow mode I get #2 & #4 cylinder contribution/fault codes showing up. I put it back to stock and it clears the codes and they stay gone. Would I be safe in assuming that these two injectors are the cause of the missing. If so, why do I not get the codes while on the stock program? I'm hoping someone here can help....

2005 Excursion. 4X4 Eddie Bauer 247000 miles. 3800 miles on last oil change. Mobil One 5w-40 w/ Hot Shot Secret. Fuel filters are about 1000 miles. All Ford filters.

Sounds like injectors. Do you know what your fuel pressure is?

No. I dont know fuel pressure, although I do have a new pump....Why would the codes only come up on the tow tune?

Maybe in that mode the program is calling for more fuel than when in stock mode.

Do I need anything else besides the injectors? (gaskets seals etc) I have a pair of injectors. Do I need to change the oil after?

You need injector o ring kits and enough oil to refill the oil rail.

Wouldn't it make sense for him to verify fuel pressure, and FICM voltages before he goes changing injectors?

It sure would David,it would also make sense to check the harness for chafing, but I answered his question about replacing injectors.

I forgot to mention the FICM. It was replaced in the spring, however I checked it anyway just for my own curiousity and it checks out perfect. 48 volts +or - .1. I have no way to check fuel pressure, but the pump only has 1000 miles on it. I changed it as a preventive measure, seeing as it had 245,000 miles on it.

Was the 48 volts measured with the key on before starting, while cranking and while the engine was running? If so, then that's good.

A new fuel pump probably means your fuel pressure is OK. But it is possible for there to be a clogged line or filter or a failing pressure regulator.

This is just my opinion, but as I understand it, injectors are about $300 bucks a shot. It'd cost you less than one injector to get the fuel pressure tested.

Voltage was the same both ways. You are right about about the pressure test, however, if I have injector codes isn't it too late to save them?

OK then your FICM is good.

I'm not familiar enough with injector and contribution codes to answer much further. Maybe Cheezit or another tech will chime in here later.

My gut tells me to check fuel pressure. Even if it is bad injectors, and I'm not saying that it's not an injector problem, low fuel pressure could have contributed to failed injectors and if that's the case, more will fail.

One place I read said that the standpipe o-rings needed to be changed when doing injectors......any truth to that? If so, do you know the part #s?
