Help me out, guys. My '08 F250 is losing coolant, and I don't know where. It's not getting out(according to the gauges), not putting out white smoke(except in regen. mode), and is not leaking that I can see. I'm losing a gallon every week or so, and I started to smell it the other day. I'm told it maybe a sensor causing the coolant to reach higher than normal temps.
Look very closely at the bottom corners of the radiator for evidence of coolant drips. Pretty easy to see.
Look at the degas bottle to see if has puked any out the top.
Otherwise, it must be getting passed into the combustion chamber or the EGR cooler. A slow leak/small leak will stop when the engine gets hot but leak into the EGR as it sits overnight. A diesel tech can do pressure tests to see where the leak is. (unless you have the stuff)
Well, there is a TSB on my truck for a bad thermostat causing the radiator to go bad. Turns out mine was replaced just before I bought it(used) at 31000, and now the second radiator goes out. Neither time did they replace the thermostats, and they didn't perform the test that Ford lists on the TSB to determine if they were bad...They just tore into it and looked at them. On top of that, they charged $1580 to replace it. The radiator is one of the last things I would expect to go out on my pickup. I've never had to replace....EVER. Now the fight with Ford begins, I guess. Does anyone have any ideas as to who to contact? The dealer said they were going to try, but I don't expect much.
