You'll notice from my sig that I currently have a 6.0. I've had pretty good luck with my truck and enjoy the way it drives. However, My wife and I recently had a child and my 6.0 has to go. I found a 95 PS Auto ext cab 4x4 LB w/155K for 3K. The woman said that they have had a lot of trouble outta the truck and says they are ready to cut their losses. It has all new tie rods, new hubs, new fuel lines, new brake lines, new rear tank fuel pump, 6 new injectors and one valve cover harness, rebuilt back brakes, new starter, freshly rebuilt E4OD. The truck came from pennsalvania but now lives in alabama. She says it stalls and then will not restart. But she says now the ford dealer tells her it needs a HPOP. I'm leaning more towards IPR seals but what do you guys think? I was thinking of offering her 2500. Are the 95s as reliabile as the later 7.3s? How much work will I have to do to it to make it drive like a later 7.3? I'm a good wrencher and have a good understanding of diesel engine operation. I also love a good trip to the junk yard. With an adrenline pump some modded injectors and a 6.0 intercooler with this truck perform pretty well as well as get me back and forth to work reliably?
IPR or a bad CPS will probably fix it up. I'd ****** it up. If nothing else, sell it and make a few bucks.
95's are fine the thing you need to be aware of (if you decide to go after HP mods) is that the late model HPOP's WILL bolt up but WILL bleed down high pressure oil unless you modify the front cover or have the 17° pump guts swapped into an early model 15° housing.
How difficult is it to mod the front cover? I have seen a few thread that mentions it, but no one goes into detail on how to go about it. Would I need a later model front cover or is it something I can do to mine...cheaply?
BTW I'm not really chasing HP I just want something that performs like the 7.3s are obviously capable of.
I would grab it too. They have put a lot of money in it if that's all true, especially if they didn't do anything themselves.
Lots of us use a 17* hpop from a super duty and send it to joey@terminatorengineering.com and he mods it for a great price. You'd have to do what chase said and send your 15* in and he swaps the guts into it.
Do the mods you listed with intake and exhaust and you'll have a great truck..

IMO... have the 17° guts swapped into the 15° housing.
Sounds like it's a good buy. The paint and the interior pics look great. I've got the owner sending me some under body pics and underhood pics. The truck's about 300mi away so I wanna make sure nothern livin wasn't too hard on the truck before I hook up the flat deck to the 6.0 to go get it. Although I did buy a 79 150 that was former plow truck a few years ago and fixed it up. But I must say I really don't want to go through that again.
