surge

so i finally got my truck to start ive just finished rebuilding the carb and when its idleing it surges power like its revving itself the brake booster hose was leaking so i replaced it and its better but still revving itself and running pretty unstable im thinking it might be a timing issue? if you have any suggestions id apreciate any help thanks

By reving itself do you mean it's idling high?

i only heard it run once before the rebuild and it sounded all around bad in many ways but i had the carb off for about a month and did alot of other work on it with the carb off then i put it back on and as far as i remember it still runs smoother even with the surgeing ive since found the problem to be in the throttle when i spray carb cleaner on the spring at the back it stops surgeing and runs at a nice solid idle for a second then goes back to crazy noises

I had a similar problem and I replaced my stock ignition coil with the Accel high performance one and it runs MUCH smoother at both an idle & on the road. Course I also replace the plugs with bosch platnium's vs motorcraft and the cap/ rotor with brass tips and the 8mm wire.
I know it sounds like supreme overkill, but I was troubleshooting everything until my buddy told me about a "hot spark" vs a "stock spark" and it did wonders for my girl.

Hope this helps ya Bro

leak

so i found the leak in the throttle body and its just a tiny gap between the throttle shaft and the throttle body, mabey 1/32'' or smaller. its around the green end opposite the spring im pretty sure this is the only hole its the only one i can actually see, but when it was all installed and i had the truck running i sprayed carb cleaner on the spring and the engine picked up right away and run solid for a few seconds then back to the surge. i need to some how plug that hole because its screwing up the flow of my carb can i get some kind of chaulk or something like that or do i have to replace the whole throttle body? thanks
