Corrosion on Alternator
All,
I have a new, spare alternator that I would like to perform preventive maintenance on. Specifically, treat the aluminum and paint it. The alternator installed on my '00 Ex needs the same maintenance.
Anyone know of this being done before?

If you don't know the history of the spare then rebuild it for sure. Wire brush the corrosion.
Won't paint keep the heat in?
Oh, if you are tempted by rebuild kits that boost the output make sure they don't raise the kick-in RPM. Pls don't ask how I know

Usually new bearings and field coil brushes are part of a rebuild. Also the diodes need to be checked if they are built into the unit. To replace the front bearing you usually need a puller to remove the pulley. Diodes and brushes are the things that are going to cause problems. A little surface corrosion is not a big deal. If the bearings are not rough don't mess with them. The alternator or generator as the manual calls it has a built in voltage regulator.
