Undercoating For Hood?
My hood has been sandblasted and primered on the top. The underneath is exposed metal that had no rust. Can I spray a rattle can-type undercoating right over the clean bare metal?
What would you all suggest?

I'm not sure what you are trying to do. The product you suggest will give you a rough pebble like surface (if you use a Shutz gun). You can get the same effect with rock guard. I would use rock guard because it can be top coated and therefore would clean easier than under coating. One thing to watch for is an undercoating with an oil base. You cant top coat these. But, if I had my choice I would do neither. Instead I would do a wet on wet. You say the metals in good shape so I would put a coat of primer down (some primer surfacers can be used wet on wet), let flash and then apply a top coat. You could have the job done in under an hour.

Primer is a product that aids in adhesion and has anti corrosion qualities. It is the first coat to be applied over metal. Having said that some people pass this step and go right to a primer surfacer that has the qualities of a primer. A primer surfacers purpose is to fill minor imperfections. This would include sandscratches on the body fillers or low areas (waves). So the order would be primer (e.g., zinc chromate, epoxy primer) then primer surfacer such as PPG K36 (I think this is the right number). Are they catalyzed? Most are, even the primers. Remember it is the catalyst that has the nasty isocyantes.
