About 6 months ago, I finally got around to installing my AS 2.5" leveling kit. I also got the 3" rear level kit. About a week ago I just got around to getting an alignment (I know, I know...). Now, the steering wheel is at the 11 o'clock position to go straight and I found out the thrust angle is 0.36° to the right. The truck still drifts to the right as it did before the alignment. Here is the measurements:
Before:
LF RF
Camber= -0.8° Camber= -0.7°
Caster = 5.1° Caster = 5.4°
Toe = 0.22° Toe = 0.29°
Total Toe= 0.51°
Steer Ahead= -0.03°
After:
LF RF
Camber= -0.9° Camber= -0.6°
Caster = 5.1° Caster = 5.4°
Toe = 0.10° Toe = 0.08°
Total Toe= 0.19°
Steer Ahead= 0.01°
I explained to the technician about the leveling kit. He said that the toe got screwed up. The front tires have bad wear on the outside shoulder on both tires. When I put the blocks in the rear, the alignment pin on one side would not go into the axle pad (I forget which side it was) so I used a big ratcheting tie strap to pull the axle so the pin would line up. Did I screw up the thrust angle doing that? When I was at the shop getting an alignment, I did measure the gap between the tire and body at the rear of the rear fender opening. One side was about 1/8" less than the other. I tried truing it up by loosening the u-bolts and moving the axle is the desired direction with another big ratcheting tie strap. I couldn't get it to work because it would just move again when I tightened up the u-bolt nuts.
How can I fix this? Its driving me crazy! (pun not intended) Did the technician screw up my alignment? Where do I go from here? Thanks a million guys!
I hope you did'nt pay for the alignment, because it seems that the tech didnt do anything. as far as the block not lining up correctly, perhaps it was made wrong, maybe the pin was not in the right spot.or the blocks were made for L and R side and you flipped them by accident. then you forced it, and now it is throwing off the thrust angle.
When I was installing the leveling kit, I compared the 3" blocks to the stock ones. The pin was in the exact same place and the blocks were the same size and shape except taller than the stock ones.
The tech did notice the front toe was way off and adjusted it until it was "in the green". He told me he tried to compensate for the thrust angle. I only paid $40 for the alignment so I'm not too upset. I just want to take care of this issue...
