So I have been lurking here for a long time and this is my first post. My problem is that I jsut had a tranny put it. (rebuilt) in a 2002 5.4 f250. The tranny seems to shift fine. However when I started it up and drove off I noticed a shake at idle. I chalked it up to sitting for 3 weeks even though it was just driven by the mechanic. So I went the longest way home to see if it needed to just be warmed up (high hopes) and around 35-40mph it shakes unbelievably bad. Then after that it is smooth as it was before. I called when I got home and said Something is not right. I explained to the mechanic the problem and he suggested it was a coil pack going bad. This has happened to me before but I had substantial power loss when they went and there is no power loss here. So I told him I would drive it tomorrow and bring it in Thursday if things have not got better or get worse. Could this be a vacuum line to the transmission causing a terrible shake? Has anyone had similar problems? Thanks in advance and I really enjoy this site. Sorry for the long post
My first thought was U-joints, but at idle that is not a possibilty. I just drove around and did some errands. This is a list I cam out with to trouble shoot with.
-Shakes at idle, didnt do that before almost like a hig performance car with a cam in it.
-noticeable loss in power from a start
-0-40 shakes bad if rpm's are under 1750.
35-40 is the worst at 1500 or lower rpms above that is not fine but much bettr.
-Above 40mph and above 1500 rpms everything seems fairly normal.
(I dont know if speeds contribute or if its just RPM's)
Shifting is smooth, no clunking all upshifting and downshifting seems to be normal.
I keep going back to the conclusion that it could be a coil or plug but there is not studdering, and everything is consistant. When I have had coils go before it was very inconssitent and powerloss all over the place not jsut from a start. I am stumped.

Reason: misspellnig
I will check I just drove around for about an hour I will go check.
The motor has to be running...you know that, right? In drive is best, so you'll need 2 people...If it's as overfilled as I'm thinking though, you should just be able to check it. If you have no dipstick, (some don't have) then just pull the fill plug and duck...
Yes i know the engine has to be running. I checked in park. Above cross hatch up to word "add" kind of ironic. Would this cause the engine to have no power from take off, is it causing the trans to slip from stop to start?

If your TC is already locked up it would make sense...But your last reply didn't. Sorry. I'm thinking you're way ovefilled...Have someone put it in drive with their foot on the brake and see how high it really is. On level ground.
I checked the fluid with truck running and temp up in park. The fluid was up above cross hatch on dip stick about 3/4". My question is would having to much fluid in cause loss of power from a dead stop to start driving. Like at a stop light. I have serious loss of power under accleration from a dead stop. Thank you all for your help. I will check fluid tomorrow morn. with someone else in the truck on the brake in drive. Hopefully this is all that it needs. I am assuming tc is torque converter? If it is locked up is that bad?
It is bad to have too much fluid. That will cause a power loss. Don't check the fluid with the trans in drive, it's meaningless. Only check the fluid level in park or neutral.
This morn. I drove to warm up trans temp. Checked dipstick in park, and the fluid level is 1" above the highest "ok" fill mark. It's going to the garage tomorrow. A lot of money and its not right, I shouldnt have to be dicking around with it. Thank you again for all your help. Great site!!!
