Then they think they own the place...The lab ignores them for the most part....The Shepherd had them chattering at him for the longest, but now they own the neighbors trees.

Just sayin' since this IS a dog thread, and the OP has a very G/L lab....I have a Golden Lab...(More Gold than Yellow) my Shepherd and a 15yr-old (yes, 15) Jack Russell that seems to reanimate when he gets his dose of phenobarbital for seizures....

The lab already has plenty of miles on him, even at this young age. I couldn't tell you exactly how many, because my wife makes him run with her and there is no way I could (or would want to) keep up. I sort of feel sorry for the poor guy and hope she does not wear him out prematurely.

Have you heard the phrase "***** a brick". My lab has literally done that. I had leftover brick from our house build at our old place and I found a chunk of brick imbedded in his feces when I was mowing the yard. That had to hurt. At that point I knew he would literally eat anything. Now he is nearly 9 years old and he is a great dog. Getting old changes us all.

Labs and Shepherds are especially prone to hip dysplasia due to their popularity. The puppy mill breeders are still my favorite target for blame, even though scientists aren't completely sure whether or not they are to blame for it. Hip Dysplasia in Dogs: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention Read the genetics paragraph as it explains it better than I can. When I was a kid my Shepherd developed it when she was around 4yrs old. We had to have her put down when she was 7 because it hurt her to run, but she loved to run and wouldn't stop. I didn't own another dog for 20+ years.

Had a lab and she would eat anything. She finally ate knitting yarn. I mean a bunch to. By the time we figured out why she was sick it was too late. She even had the vet stumped. It was all bound up and wound up in her intestines. Too late and too risky to do surgery. She was 13 years old. We had to put her down.

They eat grass to help with their digestion. My dog would do that often then vomit a few minutes later. Poor guy.
