Fluttering Boost Gauge?

Is that normal?

It's a Autometer Z series, and it's steady up to about 10psi and then above that it flutters pretty bad.

At WOT I was pegging a little over 30psi but it was fluttering a little above and below that so I was just taking the middle of it and calling it good...

Is there any way to fix this?

on the "t", the side going to the gauge should have a small hole, not as big as the map line. you may have to fill it with epoxy or something, then drill it.

I don't believe in t-ing the boost gauge into the Map line.

Just my .01$

Could be the way I T'd it. I'll have to try to put together a better way.

I have about 6" of extra map line coming off the T to a barbed fitting where my nylon line meets up with it.

Seems to work fine, just flutters at higher boost.

Brownie you might have a leak somewhere. Double check all your fittings (and teflon tape them if you didn't do it already). T'ing into the MAP line is fine... not the absolute best way to do it but it will be fine that way. I wouldn't worry too much about how you set your T up either that shouldn't matter. Also make sure that your tubing going to the gauge isn't kinked or pinched anywhere.

As george was saying, your trying to get a pressure reading, not a volume reading
With the larger hole, it tends to do that.

Dzl Jim had this problem as well.

I teflon taped all of the threads, I'll double check the hose clamps when the rain lets up.

I may have tightened down the compression fitting on the gauge a little too much and pinched the line... I'll need to get another compression piece and re-do it to be sure.

Everything else is working great. EGT's look good. It's just crazy to me how much these trucks DON'T make boost just driving around normally. You really need to get into it to make any boost over 5psi or so.

Turbos only work under a load.
No load, no boost.

Thats why super chargers are quicker off the line.
But are only limited to engine RPM's.

So, super charger and turbo for the win!

So tempted to get one of these little car super chargers.

X2 on the pinched line. It could be pinched under the dash or somewhere near the guage too.

William, your just a hater. I got mine run in a Tee off the MAP line.. Don't hate, appreciate! LoL

Normal condition.

There are a few forces at work here, but the main one is the lack of intake-side volume to act as a "buffer" for the combination of intake valve/manifold pressurization events and turbine drive speed variances due to exhaust pulse irregularities.

I'm not too worried about it. It works, and I can still tell within a couple PSI where it is.
