6.0 turbo problem

from what i am finding out the 6.0 turbo has some problems with the plate inside it . it get rusty an carboned up an then sticks so i am guessing the main one is it gets rusty so what would happen if we took it a part for a cleaning an i sent the plate out to be jet hot coated ??? that should stop the rust an it should run cooler right ???

Apparently a later turbo design has a coating.

I though of the same idea, but my turbo has maybe 200,000 miles on it... so why bother.

You are being an alpha tester (brave) but let us know...

I had mine cleaned... and am doing an Italian tuneup once a month to keep rust off it.

im thinking some sort of coating like jethot would be the way to go. the only thing i am worried about is the jet hot taking up the clearences so maybe having the plate machined down a little would help to ?

I thought about polishing the surface of the unison ring/plate as well as the housing. I had my turbo cleaned less than 1k miles ago and it is also sticking.

This is interesting as a polished surface will not rust as easily as a porus surface.

Also makes me wonder why with turbos being so expensice that they are not made from stainless steel...

i am not saying polishing is going to do anything but what i am trying to do is stop the rust because that seems to be one of the problems with these turbos that ford an some othere people are saying an i have seen it my self the rust on the unison ring is a problem so thats why i was thinking that have it jethot coated it might stop or at least slow the rust down because jethot can handle a lot of heat . a friend of mine has a set of coated headers that we had cherry red before an it had no real affect on the coating so i was just wondering what you people thought ??

The big question: will the coating withstand the heat, and not cause the parts to stick?

A coating for the outside of headers is quantitatively a different animal than a coating that have to take a moving part sliding around.
