Well I made the leap today into a 2011 SD with the PSD. The dealership offered me the Ford Maintenance Protection Plan which is supposed to cover my regular maintenance for up to a specific time/km interval.
My question is, do you think this is a worthwhile expense over say 5 or 6 years? I know the diesel oil changes are pretty hefty $$$ so I was looking for your thoughts on this.
I normally do my own maintenance so I would only be paying for materials. I pick the truck up on Friday so I have until then to decide.
I just bought a 2011 SD with the 6.2L gas engine, and had to make the same choice. The maintenance intervals on the 6.2 are spaced so far apart (compared to my 07 F150) that the FMPP wasn't a good buy for me. Doing the math, I would have paid about three times as much for normal maintenance by accepting the FMPP.
the idea of those prepaid service packages is so you keep returning to the same dealer..
i know a friend of mine who bought one, kept having to fight with the dealer to get stuff replaced.. they would try to convince him that stuff was "ok till the next service"..
basicly trying to prolong the parts, and thus lower the dealers cost over time..
personaly i dont think i'd go for a prepaid service package. but i think its a very personal call..
