Finally got the used 360 fired up for the first time. It sounds solid, but the lifters are a little noisy for about the first 10 to 20 seconds, after starting it cold. The only thing I can think of is, the truck has an oil filter relocation kit, due to the power steering pump location. The filter is mounted sideways, high up on the inner fender well.
Could this be the cause, or is noisy lifters just a trait of an old 360 for another reason?
Victor, it sounds to me like you have a check valve problem in the filter. I had a lot of problems with the sideways-mounted Fram filters leaking down and causing a rod knock on my old I6. I went to a better filter and the problem went away. I use Puralator or Mobil. So before you lose any more sleep, replace the filter.

what filter are you using? I switched to wix or napa gold filter, they are both the same. I would remount the filter in a vertical position as well, it helps keep the filter full. Possibly mount it lower as well to help keep the lines full.
Actually it is a NAPA Gold filter. Is there a check valve that keeps the filter full? I ended up positioning the filter so the oil could not drain out, and the lifters are quieter at start up.
Now the engine is making another noise. Sounds like a wrist pin. Hopefully the engine lasts a while.
if that dont work look at ur exhaust manifold and see if theres any cracks or the gasket it still there, mine was makin a noise and i thought it as the lifters so i replaced all of them and it still did it, so i didnt know wat to do and one of my buddys found that problem and the click noise went away
