The problem with body lifts on the older Bronco II's is that the sleeves and plates are rusted and come apart when removing the body bolts. Most times you have to cut them apart to get them off. New parts are not available for the rear locations and the ones that are, are expensive. LMC Truck Parts - Page 30

Sometimes the mounting brackets on the frame and/or the body need repair or replaced due to rust.

Make a good inspection of your truck first and decide if you can safely do this. Cost of a body lift can add up to a low cost suspension lift.

Problem areas can be a bit more difficult with a 3" bl. They are brake lines, shifter and e-brake, steering shaft, and radiator shroud. Gas tank filler hose should not be a problem provided it's in good shape. If it's old and cracking you will need to fab up one as they are no longer available new.

The low end kits are a bit weak in areas also. They are ok for street. The Rough Country seems to be a complete kit. Unless you need sway bars and shock boots. It uses a plate to space down the drivers side TTB bracket (holds that end of the passangers side ttb). This can cause problems under compression if a dana 35 front axle is used. And is not as strong as a new bracket. And only lift blocks in the rear. I like a add a leaf or new springs(availabe). A 3-4" lift block on old springs can have problems with axle wrap.

The Tuff Country uses a new ttb brackets and has front sway bar brackets, but does not list a pitman arm. And does not include shocks. It does have an add a leaf.

BDS is a complete kit but almost twice what the Rough Country kit is and still uses a plate to space down one of the stock ttb brackets.

The base Supelift kit is complete but uses blocks only in the rear.

Skyjacker has good brackets but I can't find a base kit with out new rear springs. There finish did not last long for me. Maybe I bought at the wrong time from them and they have that worked out now. I went with then because at the time they were the only ones offering rear 6" lift spring packs. I did not want a rear block.

I have a James Duff kit I will be installing soon. I do like the looks of there stuff and have heard good stuff about them.

In addition to the kit you will need an alignment and most likely a new rear driveshaft. Maybe the front lenthened also.

Hello, i have a 1988 Ford Bronco II, rebuilt 2.9 V-6, 5-speed, 4x4. I have a 2" body lift and never had any problems with it. No extending lines or anything, that is only for the 3" body lifts, as well as shifter extention, and steering extention. As for suspension, i put on a set of rough country nitro shocks, stock size replacements, and a rough country steering stabilizer, stock replacment variable rate front coil springs, and jc whitney replacment heavy duty leaf springs. Truck has 31"x10.5 goodyear M/Ts on stock wheels.

I had a 88 with a 71/2-8" lift, 3" body and 4.5-5" of suspension thanks to superlift, rode a bit rough, but other than that i loved it, had the 2.9 and 5speed manual, i took it everywhere,
