id say its more so in the timeing and may be a little rich on the idle side. regaurdless what ford/ FTE useres say its suposed to be, ive found that i have to run my 360 at 0-2 degrees btdc any before that and it won run and any after that it runs ok but experiances the same problems as described before.
i may be running it a lil early to compensate for another problem im haveing but it has loads of power and torqe and my mileage has improved insignifigantly. just my 2 cents
whatever you decide to do, don't put a 750cfm carb on a 360.
The formula for selecting carb size: VE(volumetric efficiency) X Cubic Inch X max rpms / 3456.
A 500cfm is just right for a 360. 600 is not too bad though.
I would like to keep the carb that's on it. I haven't been doing anything with this truck because it has a flat tire right now. I want to drive it this summer so I need to figure out this problem. I need to get a set of tires too.
I am at the point where I think I will just drive the crap out of it this summer and when winter hits I will pull the engine and replace all the gaskets and seals as well as put a new timing chain kit on. I bet I have a leak in the intake manifold. It is seeping coolant out between the intake and head in one spot. Its a very tiny amount but that tells me its not 100% sealed. It is not enough to even drip. There is no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. I figure I will just suck it up and drive it as is for awhile. I only use it for off road driving anyway. I am not saying I wont drive it somewhere else but I cant afford the gas to just cruise around at 8mpg.

so what size carb should one put on a 429? not sure what it came from or anything about it other than it has a 4bbl carter afb on it. and when i am driving and punch it you cant even feel the 4bbl kick in. it is not a vacuum setup its a linkage setup. maybe its just not big enough. i have not been able to figure out which carter it is.
hi my name is nathan i have an 86 ford i have an 85 motor in it i have replaced all most everthing but the carb when i give it alot of gas it backfires what do u think it could be could it be the coil going bad
